Ideas for a local trip

Go away this winter or plan to ‘travel locally’ in Old Montreal.

“Local Trip “– this new expression took on its full meaning this summer when travelling abroad was suspended and we learned how to rediscover our Province and its tourist attractions. It’s true that you don’t have to travel very far to feel disoriented and have the feeling of having gone far away from home! Sometimes getting out of your house to go for a fun walk or do something that you don’t normally do is enough. Spending a night or two in a hotel to enjoy your own city and discover it from a tourist’s perspective is part of it.

These small touches make all the difference.

‘Local crafts, ‘local commerce’ or even ‘local partner’ have also become the watchwords in this pandemic, and it is important for us to honor these actors who make Montreal, our city, so alive and attractive.

At the hotel, we have always worked with local merchants. That’s why today, I’ve decided to talk to you about some of our local partners in Old Montreal who contribute to the everyday SoSulpice! experiences we offer at the hotel. So, I invite you to discover what you might come upon on your next ‘local trip’ in Old Montreal! Enjoy your visit!

Local Commerce : Le Magasin Général du Vieux Montréal, 34 C rue St-Paul Ouest, Old Montréal

During your local trip discover local commerce with le Saint-Sulpice Hotel Montreal

First of all, I would like to present you, for those who do not know of it, our favourite boutique located 2 steps from the hotel: le Magasin Général du Vieux Montréal. We love them so much that some of their products dress up our hotel windows.

This shop is, for me, a real cabinet of curiosities! It is full of gift ideas, decorative items, souvenir gifts from Montreal, jewelry, and trendy accessories such as bags and scarves – all at affordable prices! Nicole, the owner, carefully choses her suppliers and artisans to showcase their creation and their local know-how.

Find your gifts in a local commerce next to le saint-sulpice hotel in Old Montreal

You’ll probably fall in love with one of her scented candles or even one of her colourful and decorative ceramic objects. The store now offers a whole collection of small green plants to complete your interior decoration.

Let yourself be served by Nicole who will guide your through the boutique and give you the warmest of welcomes. You will undoubtedly inspiration for your next Christmas gifts all while making a local purchase.

Le Scandinave Spa du Vieux Montréal, 71 Rue de la Commune O, Montréal

The current situation and the season are finally inviting us to take care of ourselves and our loved ones! Our routine is upset by the changes that we’ve been experiencing for the last 6 months. We aspire to take care of ourselves, and above all, to take the time to do so. So, why not put a wellness break in your calendar? You deserve it!

I suggest a local trip to the country of wellness just a stone throw’s away from the hotel: Scandinave Spa . Currently, we do not have access to the baths (as per gouvernement guidelines), but you do have access to a massage. In a subdued and relaxing atmosphere, the massage therapists offer you a whole menu of massages: from 60 to 120 minutes, Swedish, Therapeutic, Deep Tissue, even Lomi Atsu massage… choose your formula and let yourself be immersed with the delicate scent of eucalyptus. Now is the time to relax your muscles, your back, release the pressure, and just not think about anything.Add a massage to your local trip at le saint-sulpice hotel Montreal. SoSulpice experience!

And for all Le Saint-Sulpice Hotel guests, benefit from a SoSulpice! Reduction. Contact our Concierge Team to find out more.

 Local Trip to Dreamland

Our suites are made for that! Spacious and warm, you will quickly feel at home. Well… even better than at home! ‘Travelling locally’ is the pleasure of having a getaway close to home. Treat yourself to a change of scenery by allowing yourself a break near your home. Without having to travel far away from home, you can take advantage of a hotel stay to break your at-home routine!

Enjoy a deluxe suite with fireplace during your stay in Montreal at le saint-sulpice hotel. SoSulpice!eplace

No need to go grocery shopping, prepare a meal, just have it delivered to your room! Many restaurants offer a variety of menus: from a simple meal to a more gourmet formula. Our Concierges can direct you to the best addresses in the neighborhood.

My advice: book a suite with a fireplace. Comfortably seated on the sofa, bask in the warmth of an electric fireplace, and take the time read or watch your favourite movie or series.

Choose our Cocooning Package: enjoy a suite with a fireplace and a bathtub. Discover spring in Montreal

A spring in Montreal

If you talk about spring to a Montrealer, he will immediately smile. The arrival of spring in Montreal means the end of winter. After the cold and the snowstorms finally comes the warm and sunny season. At Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, we are right in the heart of the action where you can enjoy the return of this beautiful season.

What describes spring in Montreal?

The start of spring involves different meanings with many being true to the Montreal and Quebec culture. We will mention a few of them here and maybe, it will convince you to come for a visit…

Happy Season

Ah Spring… the season we all wait for! You might notice that Montrealers seem to smile more. People laugh, people get out of the house to walk around everywhere and all the parks quickly become animated with life. Picnics, barbecues, it only takes a few degrees above zero for us to put away our winter coats. Montrealers are known to be welcoming and friendly, however, there’s something about spring that suddenly makes people happier.

Sugar Shack Season

A very popular Quebec tradition has always been the annual harvesting of our famous maple syrup, which also means a visit to the sugar shack with family and friends. From the beginning of March until the end of April, producers welcome young and old to come enjoy typical Quebec meals. Meat pie, omelette, maple syrup sausage and last but not least, maple taffy on snow.

Un Chef à l'érable

A very famous sugar shack is the Cabane à sucre du Pied de Cochon, all as decadent as its restaurant of the same name and is a destination of choice for foodies. However, beware! Is it so good that this season is already fully booked and reservations for 2018 will quickly sell out as of midnight on January 1st 2018.

More and more, you don’t even need to drive out of the city to visit the sugar shack since many restaurants have now started opening urban sugar shacks! A new discovery this year is Un Chef à l’érable with the guest of honor, the very talented chef Laurent Godbout. An urban and modern version of the sugar shack theme. This restaurant is at la Scena in Old Montreal, only a few minutes walk away from Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal.

Montreal’s Sunny Terraces

Who says spring, says the reopening of terraces. Old Montreal is known for its beautiful terraces on the cobblestone streets, on rooftops or hidden behind building walls. At Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, we have the chance of having a beautiful hidden garden in our interior court and as soon as the weather gets warm, mid-May, we cannot wait to open it up again. Every year, our creative plant experts from Vertuose help us prepare a colourful terrace and the Sinclair restaurant finally opens its windows where you can enjoy a drink and a meal in the middle of the sunny gardens.

For us at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, its already time to get on our best behaviour because tourists from around the globe are coming to Montreal! Spring for us means the beginning of high season, wedding season and the neighborhood starts to fill up. For us, spring means excitement!

The cobblestone streets of Old Montreal fill up with people walking and our reservations increase exponentially. If you have the chance to walk around near Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel during springtime, you might notice many brides walking in their dresses because spring is also a very popular time when to get married in Montreal.

We all know, Old Montreal is an ideal place to be during spring: the favorite season of our guests to discover Montreal.

Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal celebrates its 15th year anniversary!

During spring, Montreal regains its colours. In fact, it is this spring that Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal will be celebrating its 15th year anniversary. For the occasion, we are preparing many surprises and upgrades to the hotel that will make you want to rediscover us, again and again.

Valentine’s Day for all in Old Montreal

Why do we celebrate Valentine’s Day?

We often think that Valentine’s Day is only dedicated to couples and if we don’t have a significant other, we cannot celebrate it. Some people even prefer to boycott this Holiday.

At Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, we believe that Valentine’s Day can be celebrated in many different ways.

Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day with the family

Valentine’s Day is the celebration of love. So, why not spend the day with the family and, for example, go skating on the Natrel Skating rink; only a few minutes away from the hotel, walk around the streets of Old Montreal

Old Montreal skating rink

and maybe go visit the Nordik Village organized by Igloofest on Place Jacques-Cartier. At Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, we welcome families, big and small, every week. Some come from different areas of Quebec, others from the rest of Canada, the Unites Stated and even Europe. No matter where they come from, they all come to the hotel to spend some quality time with their family. Valentine’s Day is a special day where family activities are often overseen. Therefore, why not make it happen this year ?

 Valentine’s Day with friends

Me, being a single woman, I do not plan on spending Valentine’s Day with candles and a romantic dinner. Instead, I will enjoy this day by spending it with my best girlfriends. With the nice weather that we had this past January, we would walk around the neighborhood and go out for dinner at Dolcetto & Co.: my favorite place where to find the best italian pizza. A trendy, affordable and friendly ambiance offering one of my favorite pizzas, the Bianca: wild mushrooms, Tartufo, goat cheese and arugula. Simple and delicious. If you’re a chocolate lover, you will be excited to know that they offer a Nutella-Smores pizza for dessert.

Later, let’s all put on our prettiest dresses and go have a drink at Flyjin, a very reputable club in Old Montreal where the clientele is classy and the music is banging.

A weekend getaway in Montreal with your friends, what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day? If you’re from Montreal or from elsewhere, Old Montreal has plenty of activities to offer.

Valentine’s Day alone

Scandinave Spa Old Montréal

©Scandinave Spa Vieux-Montréal

What’s great when we’re single, is that we can treat ourselves as we want. We sometimes think that being alone is something bad, but we often forget the perks of it. Why not spend Valentine’s Day celebrating the love we have for ourselves? Only a few steps away from Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, you will find the Scandinave Spa Vieux-Montréal. With their bath therapy, their different types of massages and most of all, their attentive service, are all the reasons that make this a perfect place where to go relax on Valentine’s Day. Even better? Our guests get 25% off massages and 35% off the bath access.

Valentine’s Day with your significant other

Last but not least: Valentine’s Day is mostly celebrated by couples. In fact, Valentine’s Day is a busy period at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal and our guests want everything to be perfect for their special one. With the help of our Concierge team, we answer all sorts of requests and it is a pleasure for us to help make these moments memorable. Flower deliveries, restaurant reservations, wedding proposals, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne in the suite: couples do everything to surprise their boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife. They want everything to be perfect, and we’re there to help! In fact, if you’re looking for something to offer this Valentine’s Day, our Valentine’s Day package offers all the surprise effect, without you having to do anything. We take care of the preparation. The package includes a one-night stay at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, a 3-course dinner at Sinclair restaurant, chocolate truffles and a bottle of sparkling wine in your suites as well as continental breakfast for two. The perfect getaway.

No matter why you celebrate Valentine’s Day, know that all reasons are good to celebrate love. Either with your family, with friends, by yourself or with your loved one, what’s important is to celebrate love and remind ourselves, as well as our close ones, that we love each other.

At Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal, we are here to make your biggest Valentine’s Day dreams, reality.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s Holiday season in Old Montreal

It’s Holiday season in Old Montreal

The Holiday magic is back at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal!

Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal has put on its brightest lights! Shining trees and colourful Christmas decorations have been placed in our front windows, to welcome curious souls. Do not hesitate to come in for a visit and have a seat next to the warm fireplace. There, you will find our gold and silver-coloured Christmas tree, which will enchant young and old.

Holiday Season Decorations

Hotel Holiday Decorations

Thank you to the artists of Vertuose, the creators of this year’s Holiday decorations.

Before Santa comes to town…

For all to enjoy, Old Montreal is the ideal place to stay this Holiday season. Its cobblestones streets, its Christmas decorations all along Saint-Paul Street as well as its horse-carriage rides (when the mild weather allows it), make Old Montreal the perfect place to wander around during Christmas time.

Holiday decorations: Our favorites

Only 2 minutes away from Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel: One of our favorites this Holiday season is the beautiful tree of shinning lights in front of the Notre-Dame Basilica. Its white lights stand together in perfect harmony with the blue angel lights hanging from the Basilica. In fact, photos of this tree have been shared numerous times on social media by photographers and amateurs. Other decorations not to miss in Old Montreal are the white fairy lights that illuminate Saint-Paul Street from one end to the other. While you walk along, they will make you feel like you’re in a Christmas movie.

Holiday season makes us hungry!

When the winter and cold settles in, who doesn’t love a good hearty meal with his family and friends around a large table? Turkey, foie gras, beef stew or a Quebec classic, Grandma’s meat pie. It’s exactly what inspired the Chef of Restaurant Sinclair when he prepared his Holiday menu. With a blend of local products and a French inspiration, it’s a menu that foodies will feast on. For example, the duck parmentier with iced maple Nantaises or the oven-seared bison steak from Quebec with its sautéed porcini mushrooms and black truffle oil are items on the menu to taste without a doubt.

After dinner, what should we do?

Old Montreal is animated: activities for all
Apart from dinner with the family, you must be wondering what are the best activities to do in Old Montreal during this Holiday season. With our loved-one, our friends or our family, there are enough activities for all to enjoy. Every year, our guests count on the expertise of our Concierges Clefs d’Or to recommend cultural, gourmet and fun activities to do around the hotel.

This year, from December 1st 2016 to January 1st 2017, Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal is lucky to be in the center of the action during Merry Montreal, happening just a few minutes away. Wander around the cobblestone streets of the neighborhood and visit the Christmas market on Place Jacques-Cartier, where you will find gifts, treats and discoveries from Quebec microbreweries.

You may also assist to one of their outdoor Holiday flicks, presented in French with English subtitles. Come watch some Holiday classics under a warm blanket with a cup of hot chocolate. On the menu: karaoke, come meet Santa, photo workshops and many more…

Also, do not miss out on the New Year’s party which will be held on Place Jacques-Cartier. Fireworks, performances and special guests will all be part of the show.

What is Christmas like at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel Montréal?

We all have different plans during this Holiday season. Some prefer to take vacations away from the cold, many Quebecers also have the tradition of spending Christmas at the cottage, away from the city.

A typical evening at Le Saint-Sulpice Hôtel would look a lot like this: First, gather around a cozy fireplace with a nice glass of wine in one of our suites. Then, head down to dinner at the Sinclair for a hearty Christmas meal.

And finally, why not end with an nightly excursion in the Old Montreal neighbourhood? Take a ride on the Bonsecours outdoor skating rink or finish off the evening by warming up at one of the Holiday hot spots with a nice cup of hot chocolate… Ah… The wonderful joy of Christmas.

How about you? What are your plans for the Holidays?

Happy Holidays!

Spa Scandinave Old Montreal

Are you looking for a relaxation escape? Don’t look further! Located 2 minutes away from le St-Sulpice Hotel Montreal, the spa scandinave Old Montreal will answer all your expectations.

With its unique soft light and peaceful ambiance created by the sound of the waterfalls and the relaxing music, you will straight away immerse in this universe of absolute wellness. In this urban spa, silence is the key. By embracing silence, one finds inner stillness leading to complete relaxation.

3 experiences : the hot baths, eucalyptus steam bath and sauna.

Waterfalls at Spa Scandinave

To make your hydrotherapy experience completely beneficial, you will have to follow 3 steps:

First comes the body-heating period (10 to 15min) – if you choose the hot baths don’t miss a back-massage under the waterfalls!- when the surface blood vessels dilate and carry more blood to the skin’s surface. The raised body temperature this produces causes profuse sweating that cleanses the skin.

The second stage consists of closing the pores of the skin through a beneficial rinse in cool water through a Nordic shower or cold plunge (a few seconds). Of course enter a foot under this freezing water might be difficult but it is really essential to feel really good after! Trust us! We recommend the Nordic shower… it’s easier and shorter!

The final stage is designed to allow the cardiovascular system to regulate itself through a period of relaxation in the privacy of the relaxation areas. You will enjoy the comfortable cushions for 2. Just read a magazine or let your mind wander and take a break! We invite you to try the closed relaxation area… you will definitely fall asleep in 5 minutes!

You can make this cycle 3 times but don’t forget to respect the relaxation step and to hydrate! Tea and citrus water pitchers are available for free.

Coffee time!

Stopping for coffee in Old Montreal

Recently, I often find myself walking through the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal at the end of my shifts. It’s almost like I don’t want to leave this amazing neighborhood. I spend the day recommending the best places to spend time in the city to our guests and it makes me want to live the same experiences.

While walking, I often get the urge to stop in a cool place for a coffee and sometimes for a quick snack. Here are some of the new and old places I’ve been visiting recently for a great coffee and pastry pitstop:

Sinclair Restaurant (inside St-Sulpice Hotel)

Sometimes, I just change into civilian clothing and sneak into the beautiful Sinclair terrace to enjoy a nice café latte in an elegant, calm, peaceful, sun-filled ambiance.

Maison Christian Faure (355 Place Royale)

Christian Faure was named Best Employee of France, his croissants are out-of-this-world good. My favorite, the almond croissant, is just amazingly tasty. The coffee is excellent and the tea-room-like shop is just the perfect place to enjoy a well-deserved escape from the daily hustle. more info

Tommy Café (200 Notre-Dame w.)

A beautiful interior design and great coffee, along with cool, trendy clientele sipping coffee behind their laptops and earphones, make this place a must if you want to be creative and inspired for this new project you’re working on. Tommy café is one of the few places serving cronuts in Old Montréal.

 Crew Collective & Café (360 St-Jacques)

The newest, most spectacular coffee house to open in Old Montreal, in the gigantic and opulent former lobby of the Royal Bank headquarters. Crew Collective & Café offers great coffee made by hipster barristas, nice fresh pastries and lots of space to work or meet. My favorite: The banana Financier cake! They even have six cubicles that you can use for more private meetings, free of charge, as long as you drink coffee!
